Consisting of 10 grades, each grade incorporates classical ballet, free movement and character dance. The syllabus is devised to progress in difficulty from one grade to the next and a student studying the grades in sequence would be expected to develop a greater degree of dance technique at each level. POINTE Point work can be started after level 4 is completed and the student is age 12. This is a separate class in addition to and following Ballet class. The student must have 3 years Ballet training, be able to maintain turnout and balance in Releve, keep a straight back, have a strong point, good stretch, and understand the concepts of Ballet posture. Year one of pointe study will be all technique. Pointe dances will not be learned until the 2nd year of study.
JAZZ DANCE and HIP HOP Learn dances to fast & fun popular songs, Broadway songs and expressive Lyrical Jazz to slower songs. Our Jazz classes are based on exercises that build strength and posture, and improve technique. We start with a center warm-up and technique, then proceed to across the floor steps, turns, jumps, kicks, and combinations. Hip Hop is included as a part of this class. We work on popping, locking, and other popular Hip Hop moves.
TAP Grades 1-9 Starting at age 6 TAP age 6+ Make noise! Keep rhythm! Learn the names of the steps! You will practice steps, turns and combinations that have been handed down from generations of Tap dancers creating an exhilarating and fun learning experience. Tap dance is the use of feet instead of drums to create percussive music. Tap dance has African, Irish and English heritage. Bill "Bojangles" Robinson brought it up on the toes. John "Bubbles" Sublet added heel rhythms. Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire added a Balletic quality. And Savion Glover has incorporated a Hip Hop style known as "Power Tapping". We use a combination of Glenn Wood Tap and Stepping Tones syllabi. We are the first in the USA to teach the Glenn Wood Tap Dance Syllabus from Australia!!!
